Environmental Permitting Regime

Potentially polluting activities require permits

Environmental Permitting Regime (EPR) is a regulatory system that employs an integrated approach to control the environmental impacts of certain industrial activities.  It incorporates the former Pollution Prevention Control (PPC) and Waste Mangement Licensing (WML) into a single permit.

Through a permitting process, operators must apply the ‘Best Available Techniques’ which meet a range of requirements whilst taking into account local environmental factors. We can help you meet those requirements in the most efficient and cost-effective ways possible.

Operators must apply the Best Available Techniques’ to meet regulatory requirements

Once a permit has been issued, other parts of PPC come into play. These include compliance monitoring, periodic permit reviews, variations of permit conditions and transfer of permits between operators.

You may need to collect reference data to establish the initial ground conditions of the site or design a Site Protection Monitoring Programme to monitor if your pollution prevention measures (PPM) are working adequately. WD Environmental will help you design your site investigation to maximise the data collected whilst minimising the number, frequency and density of sampling.

A well designed monitoring programme can significantly reduce the costs associated with a PPC permit

By designing a technically robust on-going monitoring programme from the outset, we can help you minimise the costs associated permit surrender. Early detection of leaks or discharges can significantly reduce the costs associated with clean-up.
